The Navel of Limbs — an early text in which Antonin Artaud condenses the pain of alienation and the fragmentation of identity — becomes, for Stefania Tansini, the trajectory of a singular performative project. It is not a representation, but an occurrence.
The performance aims to empty the space, to strip it of habit and utility, paring it down together with the body. Rereading space each time means opening other spaces, remaining without skin or shelter, establishing with the place an intimacy that is not enclosure, but pure relation.
In a tension that is constantly contradictory between the impulse to break oneself apart and the desire to reconstitute oneself, it is the real that activates the action, it is matter that cries out. Here, absence and distance are not voids, but the primary conditions of encounter.

Stefania Tansini

Dancer and author Stefania Tansini is one of the most highly regarded choreographers in Italian contemporary dance in recent years. Winner of several awards, including the 2022 Ubu Prize for Best Under-35 Performer, she develops her choreographic research through a material and sensory investigation of the body as a site of transfiguration and tension, between form and dissolution, control and surrender, in a constant dialogue between fullness and emptiness.

In her works, Tansini explores the possibility of the body as a layered and unstable territory, traversed by a movement that delves, opens, and brings presence into being. She is currently collaborating with Motus, Silvia Rampelli, Cindy Van Acker, and Raffaella Giordano on a reinterpretation of Giordano’s iconic solo *Tu non mi perderai mai*, which premiered in March 2024 at the FOG Festival in Milan and was selected as a finalist for the 2025 Ubu Prize for Best Dance Performance.
